Moving house

This post should actually be titled "Moving mountains" because that's what it feels like moving into a new home.. For those who don't know, my mum has sold our house and we've gotten a smaller apartment. It has been a gradual decision and change to leave my Sydenham home especially after the passing away of my dad and then my sister getting married. Those events had left mum, Hajra and I alone in a big house and yard and led to my mum deciding to sell and move on. Not to mention the safety factor or shall I say unsafe factor with Sydenham, and in particular my road, becoming prone to crimes in the recent months..

Anyway after months of searching for a suitable home that all three of us highly opinionated individuals approve of, we finally found a quaint apartment on Marriot Road call Hurlingham. The building is fairly small in contrast to it's large and elongated appearance. It boasts a beautiful lawn and garden area, perfect for my mum to spend her summer days.

Our apartment itself is small and cosy and as I like to think, homely. However coming from a big house the change is not going to be easy. But then again, who said change ever is. Major adjustments are gonna have to be made by all three of us. There's now only one bathroom instead of our usual 3 at home. And Hajra and I, who have never shared a room in our life, let alone a bed, are now gonna be sharing. Oh dear. Oh dear indeed..

Mum is having quite a difficult time herself deciding what she should take and what she should give away as there are things all over the house that cannot be taken with. There's literally something in every corner of the house that we just don't know what to do with! Luckily getting rid of major furniture like the couches wasn't much of a hassle as it got sold quick.. But even still.. This is a tedious task.

Moving house is not an easy experience especially when you're downsizing. Apparently we should be moved in by tomorrow evening. I don't actually see that happening considering I haven't even packed as yet. Oh well.. I'll be sure to keep you posted on the move and relate to you all the funny, frustrating and fun moments that my madhatter family is sure to encounter.. This is going to be a far from dull experience...

Monday Inspiration

"You can do what you have to do, and sometimes you can do it even better than you think you can."

-former President Jimmy Carter-

Mondays don't always have to be blue. Put your best foot forward and surprise yourself...

my enchanted

Airports. oceans, skies and abandoned buildings. These are just a few of the things that I find magically enchanting. But one of my favourite has to be secret gardens and fairies. I don't know when and how this fantasy started but I have always loved the idea of being in a secret garden with fairies or just beautiful flowers and plants with ponds and birds. Not to mention that there's something so hopelessly romantic about a musky garden at sunset when scents of lavender and roses create a sense of captivating sensuality..
And of course I am a fan of The Secret Garden book and film and as you know, of Tinkerbell so maybe that's how it all began?...
I just thought I'd share this magical obsession with you and hope you like the  images below...

fashion obsession - hidden Beauty

This fashion obsession post is inspired by Islamic wear, the Hijab. It is truly a beautiful style that millions of Muslim women embrace which hides their valuable possessions yet flaunts their beauty, radiance and modest character. The Hijab is becoming more and more understood and accepted globally and it is fast becoming no longer a misconception of oppression but rather a symbol of hidden beauty, piety and purity. Being in the Islamic month of Ramadaan, I think it is fitting to showcase this gorgeous and unique style.. Just like a Muslim woman...

where my aspirations lead..

Far away in the sunshine are my highest aspirations. I may not reach them, but I an look up and see the beauty, believe in them and try to follow where they lead...

Beautiful words by Louisa May Alcott.

Ramadaan Mubarak!

It's that special time of the year again for Muslims across the world. The time for prayer, worship and reflection. And not forgetting the samoosas, spring rolls and haleem! Mmmm definitely my favourite month of the Islamic year. But mouth watering food aside, this is the auspicious month for all Muslims to unite under the banner of Islam and become the strong Ummah (community) we once were. This is the month of charity to help the widows and the orphans, the starving and the destitute. To remind ourselves that nothing in this world is permanent and that our main goal should be to achieve the highest status in the Hereafter. Let remember our poverty stricken stricken brothers and sisters and try to fill their tummies before we fill ours. Let us forgive all those whom we have hurt and who have hurt us before we ask God to forgive us. Let us make the intention to better ourselves. not just for this month but for the rest of our lives. And let us bask in God's mercy before it's too late..

Wishing all my brothers and sisters in Islam a pious and blessed Ramadaan Mubarak...

Wo0o0h0o0o Friday!!!

Wow it has been a l0oo0ong week I kid you not! Even this morning has been pretty hectic. But between designing and putting a big quote together I still managed to find the time to blog hehehe :D.. Nevertheless I'm in a pretty fabulous mood (despite the dreary weather) and well to share exactly how I feel I've posted the pic below.. Hope you feeling that way too. So here's to an awesome weekend!

oh dear, Durban!

Whoa what's going on in Durban??!! The rain, the cold, the grey skies.. Now I am generally a cold blooded gal but even I'm freezing my touche off! Durbanites are just not cut out for this.. So I guess it's out with the layering and boots oh oh! and dreamy hot chocolates..Mmm maybe this weather isn't so bad after all...:p

The Fairy Ring

I picked up this lovely poem by Eugene Thornton called The Fairy Ring.. I am an avid reader of poetry and with my love for fairies and all things magical I instantly fell in love with this beautiful piece. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do...

Tinkerbell Love

If there was one character I would wold love to be, it would have to be Peter Pan's Tinkerbell. I absolutely love everything about her. Her spunk, creativity and sometimes clumsiness. Not to mention she's adorable! There is no fairy better than Tink! I've always found her and her world so enchanting, a place I'd love to live in. Tinkerbell has and will always hold a special place in my heart..
